Countdown 'til Christmas Tutorial

Step 1- Apply days til Christmas on the bottom of the chalkboard. I stamped mine on with acrylic paint or you could use stickers, vinyl, paint pen, whatever you have on hand.Step 2-cut card stock to fit the sides. I cut 2 strips 3/4" x 12" for and then cut that strip to fit one long side and one short side. I was able to get 6 chalkboards covered with one 12"x12" piece of card stock.Step 3-Apply glue to the chalkboard frame then add the paper. Once it is dry sand the edges with sand paper or a nail file to remove any paper that is hanging over the edges. This will also give your paper a distressed edge.Step 4- Drill two holes at the top to put your wire through.Step 5- Put the wire through the first hole and then wrap the wire around a pen to curl it then thread the end through the other hole, finally wrap the end around your chalk to make a holder.Step 6- Cut three pieces of ribbon mine were seven inches long and seal the ends. You can use fray check or melt the end with a lighter or candle. Then tie the ribbon on the wire opposite the chalk holder. This is a great beginner project. I hope you give it a try and have fun counting down the days until Christmas!

  6. I made one last year, but mine wasn't as cute! I love that you used the decorative paper on the edge! We painted polka dots and used 'bistro pens' to mark on the chalk board...found at specialty shops (just like a bistro uses on their chalk boards...such pretty colors and they wipe off, just like chalk!) Thanks for the great idea!

I completely agree with you on quality vs. quantity. I'll be sure to post some quality pics of RPat in the future just for you! I was so bad the other night...took my son to the drive-in to watch Despicable Me and Twilight was playing on the screen behind us. Guess who titled her rearview mirror just so?
